Inspire your creativity with a relaxed multimedia approach to indigo and shibori dyeing: we’ll explore the possibilities over four days of short projects. Learn to make and maintain a small, sustainable indigo vat, refine resist dye techniques, and construct a variety of books and boxes. Each day will feature a new project to introduce a different aspect of shibori technique: practice your patterning and surface design on flat furoshiki wrapping cloths and paper for a hand-bound book. Experiment on alternative materials-- leather for a binding, or tyvek for a cover? Create boxes with a bold statement exterior or a surprise lining-- or both! You will leave the class with finished projects, a head full of ideas, and a strong desire to dye the world blue.
